Of the later day free jazzers Charles Gayle is king! He would have been 86 today and no doubt is still blowing up a storm in his celestial home. A player of incredible dexterity, one minute he's taking paint of the walls the next piercing your very heart. He's become an absolute favourite around these parts with albums like Consecration, Kingdom Come, Touchin' On Trane and Streets all solid aural gold. I'd be lying if I said ANY of his music is 'easy listening' it's anything but, however some time devoted immersing yourself in the maelstrom is time very well spent.
