The Lewes store will be taking a slight detour off the beaten track in the next few months. In essence we are going a little more niche. Now I know you are thinking 'Wait. What? All they ever mention is bleedin' free jazz in any case and they are going MORE niche??' Let me explain. When we began UNION we had the sole intention of only stocking records we either a) liked, and b) would genuinely recommend to our customers. As we grew bigger in terms of stock we began to veer away from that ethos thinking we needed to appease everyone that walked through the door. After 6 years we have realised that that just doesn't work for us. We find ourselves with records on the shelves that we would never recommend to anyone. It can easily just become like selling phone cases - yeah we sell them but have zero interest in them. So moving forward we are only really focussing all our efforts on things we like. Some will be records that we can easily sell and some will be ones we'll have to do our best to convince you of their undoubted worth. We are also commiting to one event happening in the Lewes shop a month. That may be a live in-store, a book signing, a Q+A, or simply an album playback listening party. We are hoping the space becomes more than just a 'record shop' this year and goes a little further and becomes an all-arts embracing workshop/event space however small they may be. Oh, and expect more jazz. Exciting? You betcha... Were back open on January 3rd so until then enjoy the holidays!!
