The Dreaming Spires
Brothers In Brooklyn
From Oxford, The Dreaming Spires is the new band from Truck and Wood festival founders Robin and Joe Bennett (formerly of Goldrush and Danny & The Champions of the World). Their debut album 'Brothers In Brooklyn' is released on the brilliant independent Clubhouse Records.
A harmony fuelled mix of power-pop and country-rock, throughout the album there are hint of the likes of Tom Petty, Big Star and Gram Parsons, filling out the picture of what can be achieved by writing 11 great songs and recording them simply with great playing and harmonies.
On “Brothers in Brooklyn” the Spires more or less ditch any attempt at sounding artificially ‘modern’ - unashamedly celebrating and name-checking the artists, songs and second-hand vinyl the band love.
One of my favourite records of the year so far.
